Beginning in 2008, The Hamels Foundation has been dedicated to bringing an end to extreme poverty and hardship endured by lack of educational support.
Co-founded by Cole and Heidi Hamels, The Hamels Foundation has a dual mission to provide support for quality education in the United States and establish a school in Malawi, Africa. The Hamels Foundation is dedicated to enriching the lives of children and giving them the tools to achieve their goals.
The Hamels Foundation takes a community-based approach to education by providing assistance to inner-city schools as well as supporting other education based non-profit entities in the United States. This includes but is not limited to providing stimulating learning environments, high-quality educational programs and necessary provisions to promote learning.
The commitment of The Hamels Foundation extends globally to Malawi, Africa where there are over one million orphans due to the HIV/AIDS pandemic. Malawi is one of the poorest, most impoverished nations in the world. The Hamels Foundation is dedicated to building a boarding school that will educate nearly 2,000 boys and girls in the Mulanje District of Malawi. The first step towards breaking the cycle of AIDS is education, as well as tending to basic needs such as shelter and food. Our goal is to provide this first step in improving the lives of thousands.
Diamonds and Denim is The Hamels Foundation's biggest event of the year. It mixes casual with formal, providing a unique atmosphere for attendees to dress up their favorite denim with as much “bling” as they want. Guests enjoy a sit down dinner, cocktails, extensive silent and live auctions, live music from a country artist (LeAnn Rimes performed 2010 and Martina McBride performed 2011), meet and greet with over 80 celebrities including your local Philadelphia Phillies, and much more! Guests will also have the opportunity to purchase raffle keys that could open the lock to designer diamond jewelry!
Even after establishing their own foundation Cole and Heidi continue their support of the Philadelphia Phillies charities as well as charities of their
teammates such as: Hunter Pence, Jimmy Rollins, Chase Utley, Shane Victorino, Jamie Moyer, Ryan Howard, and Roy Halladay. Heidi has
served on the board for Phillies Charities for two years. For his charitable efforts Cole was nominated for the Roberto Clemente Award in 2009.
Their support in the community is endless The Hamels Foundation continues to give large grants to improve inner city education, as well as giving away scholarships to high school students seeking further education. For more information please visit thehamelsfoundation.org.

Philly Financial Day is a day (exact date TBA each year) where several of the leading financial service institutions in the Philadelphia area have agreed to donate a significant fixed percentage of their institutional trading commissions and transactional revenues to a pool of charitable foundations. On July 8, 2011, the beneficiaries were The Hamels Foundation, The Utley Foundation, The Shane Victorino Foundation, The Jimmy Rollins Family Foundation and The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia.
Cole Hamels recently established a charitable ticket program called Hamels’ Heroes. Nearly half of all home games have been designated to provide U.S. Military Veterans and their guests with Phillies home game tickets, concession coupons, and t-shirts. Several of Hamels’ Heroes will also have the opportunity to watch batting practice on the field before the game. Cole and wife Heidi created Hamels’ Heroes as a show of appreciation to all the servicemen and women who sacrifice each day to protect our freedom.
